Liquid Malt Extract (Amber)
What it does : | Use this extract to make amber-colored beers. Liquid malt extract provides the base fermentable for your beer and eliminates the need for you to mash grains. For an all-extract recipe, the liquid malt extract may comprise up to 100 percent of the fermentables by weight. However, for a partial or specialty-grain recipe, it provides up to about 80 percent of the fermentables, with the balance provided by base malts and specialty grains that add unique flavor, aroma, and color characteristics to the beer.
What it is: | This is a liquid malt extract that is typically 10 Lovibond in color. It is made from the fermentable sugars that have been extracted from malted barley. The extract manufacturers produce wort on an industrial scale and then reduce it to a syrupy, fermentable product ready for use.

| ||||
Dosage: | For a 5 gallon (18.9 liter) batch, use from 4 to 18 lbs (1.8 to 9.1 kg). Use our brewing calculators to compute the exact amount required to achieve your specific original gravity and color targets.
Preparation: | Because liquid extract is highly viscous, you should soak the container in hot water prior to use so that the extract will flow easily into the brew pot. Dry malt extract can be easier to handle and is slightly more fermentable per unit weight. |
